Three ways to get the right O-ring

Choose the purchasing route before going through detailed engineering checks.

01

I know the dimensions

Search by measured inside diameter and cross-section. Verify the exact product material, hardness and packaging.

Find a listed O-ring →
02

I need custom or bulk supply

Send a drawing, required quantity, material preference and operating conditions for a quotation.

03

The old ring is damaged

Check the gland and mating hardware before assuming the failed O-ring still has its original dimensions.

Engineering essentials

Four checks before ordering

These are screening checkpoints, not product approvals or universal design limits.

01 / DIMENSIONS

Ring and groove

Inside diameter, cross-section, units and actual gland geometry.

02 / HARDWARE

Body and bonnet

Static faces, compression, clearance, alignment and installation edges.

03 / SERVICE

Fluid and temperature

Actual process media, additives, cleaners, temperature and pressure changes.

04 / PURCHASE

Grade and quantity

Material and hardness if known, required count and any product-level documentation.

Application boundary: Body and bonnet joints are generally static; moving valve stems or seat contacts require separate evaluation.
Troubleshooting

When a valve body O-ring leaks

Damage is a clue for investigation, not proof of one root cause.

Check the assembly first

  • Seepage: inspect mating faces, cover or bonnet alignment and gland geometry.
  • Flattening: review compression, temperature, time and compound recovery.
  • Cuts or extrusion: check installation edges, clearances and service pressure.

Choose a defensible buying route

Known exact dimensions? Check listed material and hardness. Unknown geometry or compound? Send drawings, photos, operating conditions and quantity for engineering review.

Frequently asked

Short answers before you buy

Is a valve body O-ring the same as a valve stem O-ring?

Not necessarily. Body and bonnet joints are generally static, while a valve stem may move. Identify the exact seal location and motion.

Can I choose an O-ring using valve pressure alone?

No. Groove geometry, clearance, compression, media, temperature and the actual compound also matter.

What if I do not know the original valve body O-ring size?

Check a verified drawing or measure the groove when possible, and include photos, process conditions and order quantity in your quote request.
